Meditation Teacher Training, November 2016 – Ganga Pooja Ceremony
10-Day Meditation Teacher Training, Rishikesh India, 2016
Ganga Pooja (Evening Prayer) & Its Benefits
Rishikesh is famous for its Ganga Pooja, the evening prayer at the banks of river Ganges organized by Parmath Niketan ashram in Ram Jhula. It is a beautiful gathering of people at the river banks to say thanks and receive blessings from Mother Ganga. It is a serene atmosphere filled with chants, music and temple bells and the air filled with the fragrance from the burning of incense and oil.
Since everyone at the training was curious about this Pooja, Shiva organized an Evening Pooja for all the students so they could become a part of this happening. But, instead of joining the big event, they all decided to make their own Pooja at the bank next to Parmarth Niketan Ashram. They bought flowers and lamps from the local flower lady and gathered around the bank. Shiva described the rituals and the meaning of that Pooja to everyone. Everyone felt like a child, curious to pay their respect to the Mother Gangs with flowers and lamps in their hands. With prayer sounds in the background, coming from the nearby temple, they all sat down at the bank and said some prayers before sending away the flowers in the holy water of River Ganges.
It was a beautiful moment as everyone felt so calm and composed of what they were doing. It is very important to learn and understand the customs and traditions of the country you are in to be able to appreciate it better and feel like home with people you had never met before. This is the beauty of Meditation that it teaches you such important lessons in life about how to appreciate and acknowledge all the little moments in life which make it worth living.
This 10-Day Meditation Teacher Training course at Saytam Shivam Sundaram Meditation School under the mentorship and guidance of Shiva Girish was making a lot of difference in everyone’s life and their perspective towards the world and life in general. It’s because of the course that they understood the importance of sharing and loving.
